Happy Rosh Hashana , I visited this Temple

Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur -- a day of sweetness and a day of atonement are the culmination of a month-long process of coming back to God . This is what I learned when I visited the Temple in Santa Maria. I learned some thou there was no electricity for the whole time . Here is a picture of it and there are 3 big Torahs behing that screen , a big shofar to the left. I was scared first not knowing what to do but followed what they did and a nice lady explaind to me. Of course the darkness helped too. That was friday and at 7:30 sabbath starts, but to day we had a meeting in the Library and I managed to invite one Jewish lady to come to our meeting that we discuss different religions using book of Huston Smith as religions of the world. Today I learned about all the books they have and how 70 people from Canon went to Egypt and Moses rescued them out of Egypt. The I learned that This tribe was Jacob and his family and the other name of Jacob is ISRAEL! Also the Orthodox and conservative Jews were discussed by 2 people in the group and we all learned. I am supposed to give a presentation on Oct. 23rd on Islam and a Sunni guy is going to give a speech on Sunni part of Islam. I will explain each sunday. I also had a meeting with Mormons and learned that Jehovah, Jesus and John the Baptist and idea of trinity in Mormonism that I will explain later. Here goes my sunday and a religious posting. Have a nice sunday.

L'Shana Tova
5766 and counting! Amazing! Incredible! Unbelievable! Jews will soon begin our 5,766th year on this earth! Who would have believed this possible? If anyone had told Abraham that his people would be around this long he probably would have been astounded.

Imagine, we did this without beheading anyone, without a single suicide bomber, without kidnapping and murdering school children, without slaughtering Olympic athletes, without flying airplanes into skyscrapers, and mostly, without teaching our children how to kill themselves by becoming bombs.

We lasted this long despite 400 years as slaves in Egypt, 40 years of wandering in the desert, the mighty Roman army who nailed us to ten thousand crosses; despite the best efforts of the Christian crusaders, the Spanish Inquisition, Hitler's third Reich, Stalin's gulags, five Arab wars of annihilation, 100 years of British, Arab and Arafat terrorism in the Holy Land, and 800 hate-filled UN resolutions!

How did we Jews do it? We did it by concentrating our efforts on education, love of family, faith, hard work, helping one another and a passionate dedication to life no matter what evil befell us!

We hung in there with hope the rest of the world would one day overcome its hatreds, jealousies, violence and join us in a life of cooperation and mutual respect.

We hang in there today despite the contemptible efforts by the leftist and mainstream press of our former oppressors in Europe, aided by so-called "news services" like Associated Press and Reuters, to equate Israel and Judaism with Naziism.

We're not there yet, but we're still hopeful. And when we enter our places of worship, this is what we pray for with all the strength in our hearts.

May the New Year 5766 be a good one for you and your family - filled with peace, joy and

Two Jewish men, "Sid" and "Al," were sitting in a Mexican restaurant. Sid asked Al, "Are there any people of our faith born and raised in Mexico?"

Al replied, "I don't know, let's ask our waiter."

When the waiter came by, Al asked him, "Are there any Mexican Jews?"

The waiter said, "I don't know Senor, I'll ask the cooks."

He returned from the kitchen in a few minutes and said "No sir, no Mexican Jews."

Al wasn't really satisfied with that and asked, "Are you absolutely sure?"

The waiter, realizing he was dealing with "Gringos" gave the expected answer, "I will check again, Senor!" and went back into the kitchen.

While the waiter was away, Sid said, "I find it hard to believe that there are no Jews in Mexico. Our people are scattered everywhere."

The waiter returned and said, "Senor, the head cook said there is no Mexican Jews."

"Are you certain?" Al asked once again, "I can't believe there are no Mexican Jews!"

"Senor, I ask EVERYONE," replied the exasperated waiter. "All we have is orange Jews, prune Jews, tomato Jews and grape Jews."

I enjoy some Jewish cuisine like latkes and matza balls. I tried making latkes and they came out really well, but the matza balls and chicken soup were a disaster (the dog liked them though..hehe!)

Enjoy the day Roya!
