The color of the skin of the lion!

HENDEVANE
Originally uploaded by roya parsay.

O.K. the hills now look like the color of the skin of lions(pooste shir) as my brother said. Now I want to ask my brother, sister or relatives to add to my list of what mother used to say that made it unique as mother's words. Please add that as comments anonymous and add your name at the end of comment or not, as you wish. I know Navid would say ada dooz bekhori or koofti and Mahshid would say as soon as she arrived at our house she said I gotta leave now! Here are more of her unique words:
mother used to say HENDEVANH(watermelon ),we said HENDOONE
mother said JEGAR, we said JIGAR(liver)
mother said KEDOO, we said kadoo (squash)!

I know my son enjoyed the 50 dollars he got every time he said hello to her!!
She called her brothers, dadash, and they called her khahar jan. We call our brothers or sisters their names!! Why we felt different I dont know, I just feel that she was a true classy person.

The followings are notes to myself: servants ,and if the druggists and alcoholics could recover why not me??! is what Tye was trying to tell me today to learn to value myself first!! she said church is full of people who recovered (dont bother about these notes),please add mother's words as comments if you knew her!! Thanks;

My Mother in Caspian Sea side as head of ordoo(Camping)

My mother: On our New year’s day Mary told me on the phone to go outside, put two chairs and pretend my aunt and my mother are there and having a cup of tea with me! I did that since I looked outside and saw 3 chairs next to the pool at my Cousin’s house while I was dog sitting for him! I went outside with my cup of tea and like an idiot looked at each chair and said hello and first asked my aunt do you want me to stop writing about you? And iI think she was sorry that I had to stop and said for now. Then looked at the chair that my mother was supposed to sit and I started crying and crying, almost screaming and saying “why did you die when I was not at your bedside? Why you got buried without us? I was shouting why did you let them bury you when we don’t even know where your grave is? You see she died in Tehran and was buried there and my brother and I have not seen her grave. Also I was involved in this stupid divorce and did not have time to really think about it. I was luckily involved in this nasty divorce and thought about it after some time elapsed, makes it easier. Well I needed to burst and I did. She was a hard working woman, cliché? No she was different. She got divorced from my father twice, never in her life let another man touch her( unlike here and me that as soon as you divorce you get a boyfriend or a new spouse)She was working as a school teacher and also a second job in the afternoon to pay for the 4 kids (you 4kids are ..) is what we heard a lot of “ shoma 4 ta!”. Ma 4 ta bradar, hamrahe ye khahar is a song this Armenian singer sings, we were 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Anyway she went to get her B.A fm women university in Nutrition at the age of 40 some? Having 4 kids,no husband. She wrote a book in cooking. We all made fun of her. She learned to drive at that age and did not know how to u-turn so she would try to find a square9meydan) or turn left and right! We made fun. Then she became the head of ordoo or camping of studenta from all over Iran. A difficult job for a woman, but she handled it well, she was better than a man most the time. My father was difficult to live with, distant and not inthis world. I tell his story later. Well mother was our only takye(place to lean on) in this world. When things would get rough she would go to the roof and look at the mountains and say :chon kooh be khod kamar shekan bash?farzande khesale khishtan bash!” mening be like a mountain and depend on yourself and inner strength. O.k I want to quote some of her famous sayings, which has MADAR (mother in farsi, what we called her) is written all over it. Before that I should say she was born in Kermanshah while her father had a mission as a lawyer there, lived in Tehran and was so beautiful that people would pass by,stare and say Ya ahsananl khaleghin(meaning the best creature God created!) I know all mothers are beautiful and all children are honor students but she really was gorgeous! Having said that I had my disagreements with her since she always treated me like an 8 year old and had a lot of control over me, she never had patience and I learned that from her, but she was a very strong, hard working and deicated woman. Because of her we all went to universities and got degrees. Here are some of her famous words:
-“Shotor galo bash””(meaning like camel that has a long neck, a word should come out of your mouth after passing a long way and a lot of thinking before it comes out of your mouth!
-“ Koofti” ( cant translate that , a swearing but not too bad!
- this one she would tell me and my sister every time we went to take a bath,in public baths “dokhtaro too shsishe ham bekoni age bekhad bad beshe bad mishe”(Even if you capture a girl in a glass, if she has the capability of being bad,she will be!)
- “golobolbol, gol o bolbol” (flower and hummingbird, whenever she wanted to stop us from quarelling, or change the subject to a more pleasant one)
- chon kooh be khod kamar shekan bash, farzande khesale khishtan bash
- aghebat gorg zadeh gorg shaved, gar che ba adami bozorg shaved
- Ba ham bashed
- sagi bogzar ma ham mardomanim

When you leave home it doesn’t matter where you live, it ain’t home anyway!

3/22/05
4 months ago I decided to leave Virginia and move to California. I decided to drive. Big plan? Did not feel that way then. You see when you are determined nothing is impossible. SO I started packing without having a real plan just the desire to live closer to my son. I could not live with that dream any longer, had to materialize it. I got separated from him when he was 2 years old and now he is 27 years old. I knew he does not want me in the same town with him, being young and independent. I thought of going to somewhere to be close but not too close. I met my cousin in Santa Maria and loved the area. I also wanted to be away and alone. Needed time to resolve some issues in my mind. I just finished going thru a nasty divorce and 12 Judges voted against him. That takes a lot of your energy. I have this nature of FORGIVING fast and is easier for me to live and go on . Once a friend said what does it take for you to get hurt? I thought about it, my logic is if he/she knew better he/she would of not done that. SO not on purpose but out of ignorance he did that, so he/she is forgiven. Plus keeping a grudge takes a lot of energy out o that. My counselor once said so you are behaving Christ wise? I said whatever you call it. I try to prove you were wrong but forgive and forget in the end. Anyway as I was packing and thinking what to do, Dick Holmberg called! You see I was a good COBOL/IDMS programmer and as a contractor was working with dick Holmberg in couple of projects, in USMINT, IAI, Bureau of printing and engraving, place they make money in America from coins to bills. Anyway he wanted to come to Virginia to take a look at his condo in Alexandria and was wondering if he could stay with me. He just recently lost his wife on Christmas day and suddenly. She was of Hispanic background and Richard(Dick) is from Minnesota, his second marriage. I was feeling sorry for him, but one thing about him that befriended us is his resemblance to my grand pa. They both have blue eyes with a smile in it, both tall and kind of same features, thou different in character. SO at work I would go and call him Dick Holmberg and wanted to touch his tummy, as the ad in that bread company. Anyway he came over and stayed in that room I prepared for my son and only once he came over with his girlfriend(I bought this 2 bedroom condo in Reston,Virginia after my divorce) . Anyway he (dick Holmberg) found out about my plan and said that he is going to England to visit his son but will accompany me and drive the truck was planning to get to put my furniture there and also to pull my Honda with! WHAT? Did GOD send him from Heaven or what? There was no way that I could that move alone. I said God bless you Dick Holmberg(you noticed or not? Never in my life I called him Dick or Richard or Holmberg, I always call him Dick Holmberg with a music in it! SO that is how my journey started from Virginia to California, with one step as Chinese say it! So I rented a truck and 2 men to pack it and on this November 2004,on a sunny autumn day with the beautiful change of color of leaves we left Virginia. Plan was 95 south and 10 west. Maybe we went 70 and down to hit 10. First we went to New Orleans and found out we cant park anywhere since we didn’t know how to back up having a car attached to us! So the whole 3000 miles had to be planned so we don’t back up ever. One day I saw Dick Holmberg coming towards me and very worried saying I am in potential trouble! And that was when we went in front of a motel to ask their price and vacancy and found out we cant go forward for a low ceiling in front of us and cant go backwards either! I never forget his face then! We somehow managed and learned u-turn too! Next state was Louisianan and many many rivers crossing the highway, and Mississippi! Well I never thought I had to write Mississippi and here I am. Then we went to next state which was ????. Then we got to Texas and Texas and Texas. My God that state is LAAAARGE. Governor of Texas can easily lead America if he can manage such a big state. Met an old friend from 30 years ago (Kami) and talked to my niece. Then we got to Arizona. Well funny thing happened. I was raining and we stopped (this ws before we got 2 flat tire) .We asked the hotel whether they had internet and whether the movie theatre was close. You see it was my birthday and wanted to see “The Incredibles” since my son had something to do with that movie and his name was at the end of the movie, actually I wanted to see that frame the most. Anyway they had internet, but not the movie theatre. That city on the border of new Hampshire and Arizona had no movie theatre. They all would got to Arizona to see a movie. I said please call and make a reservation for us in that town in Arizona. He did and said but since it is raining the movie theater is closed!!! EXCUSE ME??? Because it rains they close the movie theater? We used to go to movies in Virginia when it rained and snowed, as best activity! Hahahahah I laughed a lot and did not believe I am in America and it is 2004!!!
Then we went to Arizona, had a small accident and went to the DESERT. Something happened to me there I fell in love with the desert! I felt I belong there, me? Who is afraid of a spider and lizards and all fell in love with the desert. I made a vow to go back and look at the sky of the desert ,maybe one day! After visiting the desert and taking the biggest cactus you could ever see and also a cotton plant which I posted its picture before. Then we got to California!! Did my dream come true? We drove and drove and after Santa Barbara things started to get beautiful. Not that Texas and Arizona were not pretty, but these small hills with the cows on the steeps and the ocean and pelicans and birds and these trees that have no trunk, small trees or big ones with no trunk, like branches coming out of the ground!! And no traffic, no rush, a lot of vineyards! Just like a painting of a famous painter! Mountains and cliffs and ocean and hills and birds and cows and horses. What else can you ask for? Ok here is the catch NO JOBS!! So I got a laptop and started writing. Now I can write my book!! Which one? Well one got hushed by the family about women in my family who put their lives at risk for cause of women. But I am going to convert this blog to a book soon. In a year I will write whatever I have to write and voila! I have to thank Dick Holmberg and they way he drove 3000 miles. I tried to drive couple of times but when the road got steep I got scared. So for the first time me and my son are in the same state ,5 hours away and my mind is at rest for the first time. Only mothers know how disoriented you get when away from you child since 2 years old. The younger the more disoriented one becomes. I am unwinding now after 26 years of worrying. I cant explain more only that it feels good to be closer to him even if I don’t see him much. I may get lucky and celebrate his first birthday after 25 years!! During the 25 years I never met him on aprils, it was june or july for 5-7 days in a year!! Add up the numbers 7x25=175? Its not 365 days yet that I have seen him in my life after he was 2 years old. Now can you guess why mostly I am out of this world?.

In reality it is never forbidden in Islam or in Quran for a woman to do that. Its fundamentalist men who spread a wrong idea against women for years. Right on Lady!

Woman leads US Muslims to prayer

The congregation was evenly split between men and womenA professor in the US is thought to have become one of the first Muslim women to lead mixed Friday prayers.
More than 100 men and women attended the service and sermon given by Amina Wadud, professor of Islamic studies at Virginia Commonwealth University.
The location was moved to an Anglican Church building in New York after mosques refused to host the event.
The service has been criticised by a number of Muslim leaders, who say it goes against Islamic doctrine.
It's not proper for [men] to look at the woman whose body is in front of them
Sayed Tantawi sheik of Cairo's Al-Azhar mosque
"The issue of gender equality is a very important one in Islam, and Muslims have unfortunately used highly restrictive interpretations of history to move backward," Ms Wadud said before the service started.
"With this prayer service we are moving forward. This single act is symbolic of the possibilities within Islam."
Those who attended were said to be evenly divided between men and women. Most women wore the traditional Muslim headscarf and robes.
Some 15 protesters gathered outside the Synod House of the Cathedral of St John the Divine, where the prayers took place. One carried a placard calling for Allah's curse to be upon one of the event's organisers.
"She is tarnishing the whole Islamic faith. If this was an Islamic state, this woman would be hanged," one man, Nussrah, told the Associated Press.
The BBC Middle East correspondent says the controversy has meant Ms Wadud is getting prominent coverage on Arabic television networks.
'Second class'
The service was organised by a group of activists, journalists and scholars who hoped to encourage discussion about the centuries-old tradition of separating men and women during congregational prayer, and reserving the role of prayer leader, or imam, for men.
One organiser, Asra Q Nomani, said they would challenge the "second-class" status of women in Muslim spiritual life.

Mosques reportedly refused to host Amina Wadud
"We are taking actions that no-one else would have dared to think about before," she told The New York Times. "Nobody cared that we didn't have a place in the faith."
However, the sheik of Cairo's Al-Azhar mosque, one of the world's top Islamic institutions, said Islam did not allow for women to preach to men.
"When she leads men in prayer... it's not proper for them to look at the woman whose body is in front of them," Sayed Tantawi wrote in a column for the Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram.
In New York, Aisha al-Adawiya, head of Women in Islam, said she feared a "backlash".
The prayer service was moved after it was rejected by three mosques and an art gallery venue received a bomb threat, the AP reported.

Not only for ourselves

8/16/05 Not only for ourseleves , is the title of this book talking about the two women in America who struggled to get right of voting for women. Do you know their name or just used the result of their struggle and don’t bother to even learn their names. Here is the quiz, answer it and the year right of voting happened. They did not do it just for themselves ,they had all women of the world in their mind. They did not do it to be hushed, they had to be told, retold, their writings published ... I was hushed to talk about struggle of the women Iwanted to talk about, and it hurts like hell. I will tell my story and my biography, for now I looked at other blogs and found these writing interesting that I share with you.
This is what a woman called Shandi wrote about herself that I found interesting to share:
""The only one in my trailer park not on crank. I was raised "white trash" in a small river community, experiencing all the joys of family abuse and addiction. I came out of it with a dark sense of humor. I have betrayed my heritage. I have a job, wear shoes, and don't park on my own lawn. I usually keep my opinions to myself, but use this blog as a safe place to express myself. "".
(How I agree with the last sentence),of course if allowed! Ok here is her address, its funny:

Handful of people hijacked Islam-President Bush

How true .This was in the speech of president Bush, on3/16/05. Yesterday Went to Santa Maria and watched charshanbe souri program at Shahram’s house from satellite and connection to Iran. Seemed like it was louder than every year. Also went to see Michael Jackson. I SAW him face to face ,almost, he was in his car waved at me and saw the ribbon I fastened as arm band to make a joke! although I think if all of his followers wear one as they were asking, and all over the world ,they would have made a statement for him. He is different but not a child abuser and also if he was not different he would of not been Michael Jackson! This is my haft sin an apple(sib) a coin(seke) a plant(sabze) a can of soup called select too! , a basket(sabad),green color of a picture(sabz) and a CD! I just did charshanbe souri in my room lighting a candle and the whole house jumped over it and said my yellowness (sickness) goes to you and your redness(health) come to me!

How fragile we are!

How fragile we are!
Originally uploaded by roya parsay.

We till have not seen her grave thou my sister reports about the color of the stone and flowers around it. She could send a digital picture too,but ONE DAY WE SHALL OVERCOME and go home and visit. Well lets talk about birth, welcome to this world little cretures!and please don't forget to bring me good luck!
Well I got paid for the first time yesterday and bought ice-cream and took to my cousin's house in Santa MAria, went to a church party with his wife Claudia and later we chat and drank. That was last night.
I went out today and first saw 100s of bicycle riders going thru town, then went to the ocean and saw 10s of fishermen at the seaside. Where is a better place to catch a fish than the ocean? Is the message sports today? The view at the sea(any sea) reminds me of Caspian sea at northern part of Iran. I had the best fish and caviar from there. Hope it repeats. Then I went to reward myself for my first pay check and got myself a fishing rod, plus an orange tree with lots of blossoms, and a jasmine plant! A little bit of Iran in everything and a little bit of my son in every event. He became a CITIZEN all by his own efforts, like the way he studied, shame on us his parents , we only gave him good genes and there you go. I LOVE him and wish him success always and ask him for forgiveness always.

Radios and TVs outside Iran on women's day!

Originally uploaded by roya parsay.

I approached this radio AFNL, Mr. Maybodi, and instead other women got to talk about their grandmothers or appraise men like Khatami (Mrs. farnoodi)or Shaboon jafari (Mrs. Sarshar)as opposed to heros like Mrs. Fakhr Afagh Parsay founder of jahan Zanan (women's world) magazine for women in 1920, asking for equal rights for women.

Please go to link on right side and get the Question!

Hello. Your question touches a sore spot! It is a pity that this silence is over these 2 pioneer women. While a lot of foreign women are mentioned and appraised by Iranian TVs and also some Iranian women, who either voted for Khatami or are writng books about men ,rather than women , are being mentioned and interviewed, one notices that a struggle starting from around 1920 by Fakhr Afagh Parsay is still having a long way to go to bring the awareness of men and women to a higher level to at least know who's struggles whould be mentioned, followed and give them bravery to fight against the suppression of women .
Like fighting against forced hijab on a day called International Women's day. Sorry to say I approached a radio requesting an interview to emphasis my grand mother's struggle for requesting no hijab for women and equal rights for women and was refused! At the same day I saw women like Mrs. Farnoodi who voted for Khatami who is anti-woman,pro-hijab,pro-stonning women was interviewed or those women who write books about men like Mrs. Sarshar writing about shaboon Jafari is being respected more than those who really deserve to be mentioned on this day.

Their story(Parays) has to be told and retold, until people's awareness and braveness level is raised by making them a model. Encouragment of the issue is our duty.
Wishing a brighter future for women of the world and wishing the Iranian women freeedom specially from forced Hijab; Regards Roya

The funny part was the noise she was making, noise does make your head turn doesn't it? Who taught her to do that? Like who taught my son to suck on my breast and so strongly being couple of hours old only, maximum a day old? Is there a God or not? I yield.

A diversity of experiences, like the effects of the wind

My parents in Abadan with me in mother's tommy,

Originally uploaded by roya parsay.
These are my parents and my mother here is pregnanat with me. This is Abadan ,the city that I was born and has to be 3goosh or berim and club of oil company! This city is 80% burned down during Iran/Iraq war that regime of Mullahs in Iran dragged the war. I never saw it before and if I see it in future will not be the same as before the stupid war . Khamenei should leave Iran soon and in shame.

How I met my Bashu (Abadani Friend) and the interview

3/3/ 05 - I met this person via Internet thru my blog,he turns out to be Abadani same town as I was born of all places. Here is how I met my Abadani friend, I had a comment on my blog and it was about my aunt,Dr. Parsay,ex secratary of education in Iran. He said he is interested to know about Pahlavi Dynasty's time since he was very young then and had special respect for Dr. Parsay.

He encouraged me to write my story and was proud of me doing that. Unlike the rest of the family who made me feel so stupid doing this.

I also found out that he is a reporter-writer for Cry of the Peacock site.

I answered his comment and emailed him and asked questions and answered questions. He is from Abadan and knows berim and segoosh where I was born. I never saw this city called Abadan at southeastern part of Iran. He lived there and witnesssed the war with Iraq. The burned ground. He is also very bright and knows A-z about Internet.

Here is the first question he asked me and my answer, this is posted on blog of
InConversationWithRoya.blogspot.com. Also if you have not seen the movie Bashu try to see it SOON , its a masterpiece, find an Irani friend and get it thru them.

Q- One of the posts on your weblog is dated back to 2000. It was originally published in an Iranian journal in US. The rest of the posts are from February 2005, so my immediate question was why it tooks o long and what was stopping you from telling your side of story?Did you have another weblog before that we aren't aware of? And how realistic is the need to write?

A- I always wanted to tell the story and had to fight the family for getting permission from them. I even got a note from her daughters encouraging me to stop. I guess they need time to get over their hurt and society was rude to them, but I can’t keep quiet. At last I asked this publication, Azadi, to write half of the story. This is a publication run by grand child of Mossadegh, Mr. Matin Daftari. I did not share her diary in her own handwriting and left it with a relative to keep until future .
I do strongly feel that her diary should be published cause that is why she wrote it, but can’t fight the whole family . You see you try to hurt them less after such big cruelty being done to them, I gave all my pictures and documents, except her diary that she wrote days before her capture, to a writer in DC (Mrs. Peernia)and am hoping that she would publish it.
I may post one page with her handwriting as a sample. I need either a sponsor or a publisher who is so attached to the story, or love women’s cause, that would publish it for me for free! At any rate there is no other website and I am telling chunk by chunk of my life in Iran and whatever happened to me, which witnessing my aunt working honestly as a Secretary of Education during Pahlavi dynasty and later her capture during Mullahs regime, accusations of being a Bahai or wrong-doer by that brutal regime, the firing squad, participating in her burial and all were part of it.

Went to LA to both see Tye and also go to this radio station and get a satellite. This Mr. maybodi’s program I watched for 15 years now,its become a habit!!It was raining and had to defend some groups of opposition’s rights to defend freedom.,I do not belong to any organization but I defend freedom for all. As I don’t belong to a specific religion but try to respect all and make the best out of every one of them, whatever……..

for shirin, his followers decided to wear an arm band preferably red. He is weird but dont think he did it. The mother of the child is after money and has gone after lots of celebrities!  Posted by Hello
